A proud Neil MacFarlane was full of praise for his young side as they sealed themselves a place in the final of the Premier League Cup with a 2-1 win over Fulham Under-21s at Motspur Park.
Goals in each half from Alex Gilbert and Tristan Crama gave the side the win against our West London neighbours and MacFarlane felt it was a brilliant performance from his side.
Following the match, he said: “I’m ecstatic for the group of players. Everybody who was involved tonight, and everyone who has been involved for us throughout this Premier League Cup campaign. They’re a real credit to themselves and tonight really epitomises our season, we were so together in our defensive work out of possession, and we were a real threat in possession. Not only that, we were a threat from set pieces, which obviously led to the winning goal.

“We know what we’ve got in the dressing room and we have an unbelievable group of players. I thought the first 10 minutes of the game was frantic, a bit nervy, with it being a Premier League Cup semi-final. That’s what we expected and I thought we grew into the game, it was an unbelievable goal from Gilbz (Alex Gilbert), and as has been the case with lots of our games, it’s difficult to single out any individual because it was a real team performance. You saw at the end when they pegged us back to 2-1, the grit and determination within the group to get over the line. They’re a unified group with everyone pushing in the same direction to develop these players that we have at our disposal to learn how to win games like this which is a great experience.”
The Bees will now face Blackburn Rovers Under-21s in the final of the competition. They will come up against a side that they faced twice in Group D earlier in the season with both teams having beaten the other in two fixtures. Looking ahead to the Blackburn test in the final, MacFarlane said: “It’s one we will look forward to, it takes our season right to the end and I can’t ask any more of the brilliant bunch of players. We know it will be a difficult game as have all of them have been in this campaign. We’ve won one against them and lost one, and tonight was a difficult game as well.
"This was a team tonight that were in a European semi-final a couple of weeks ago so it’s no mean feat to come here and win the game. There’s no doubt when we face Blackburn in the final it’s going to be a really tough fixture, but we know if we approach it properly we can hopefully get some silverware.”
