B team forward Nathan Young-Coombes says the side left Kenilworth Road slightly disappointed having not come away with a win over Luton Town Under-21s. The young Bees drew 2-2 in Bedfordshire and produced a performance where they created a host of chances, particularly in the first half.

Ryan Trevitt kept up his impressive season as he scored twice before the Hatters battled back to confirm a draw on the night.

Reflecting on the match where Nathan grabbed 73 minutes as he led the line up up front, the youngster said: “We’re a little bit disappointed with the way that the game finished because we were much the better side, in the first half especially. I think we dominated play. They had a strong team and I think the boys handled themselves quite well considering. A few of us have a real understanding of how we play, how good we are, and it’s about keeping the ball, being patient and getting between the lines and handling the ball.

“I think we got a little bit frustrated (in the second half), they realised the quality that we had and they sat in a bit more than they did in the first half. For the upcoming weeks we’ve got a lot of good players so that’s going to be normal so it’s about keeping patient, go round, and then find the finishing touch.”

The likes of Shandon Baptiste, Saman Ghoddos and Mads Roerslev all featured from the first team whilst there were also minutes for Matthew Cox and Fin Stevens in Luton. Discussing the chance to get game time alongside some of the more senior pros, Young-Coombes says the whole group look to learn as much as they can.

“The bring quality every time a game like this comes to fruition, and you could see in passages of play how they keep the ball and how comfortable they are on it,” said Nathan. “For us young players it’s about learning and taking as much as we can from them.”

Nathan has steadily built minutes in recent weeks as he recovered from injury, and having spent the first half of the season on loan with AFC Wimbledon in Sky Bet League Two, the youngster says the season has been a learning curve for him.

He explained: “This season for myself has been stop start with a lot of injuries and time out. I think I’m edging towards the end of it so it’s about getting as many minutes as possible before the end of the season and then carry on and hopefully get a few goals.

“I think it was the harsh reality (of football) when I went out on loan some of the teams we played were aggressive and you have to take a step back and review that and come to a decision of how you can get better. You have to take it as an experience and I think from what I’ve had out on loan I’ve taken it into the past couple of months, added a bit of size and made sure I’m using my body in certain ways. Now I’m back playing it’s about adding the things that I’ve learned.”
