B team midfielder Max Wilcox says there are positives to take for the young Bees despite being beaten 2-0 by Breiðablik in Portugal.

The Icelandic side netted twice in the second half to claim the win but it was a match where Brentford B had some good chances but were unable to capitalise.

Wilcox explained: “I thought the lads put a really good shift in. We defended really well in moments but I think they were more clinical today. We had some good chances but couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net. It’s about getting together as a team and being tidy on the ball and not let loose passes or mistakes cost us.

“The feeling at half-time was to nail the final pass. I thought we were good on second balls; we kept the ball in moments and I thought we defended well and it was just to nail the final pass. Everyone is disappointed because you never like to lose but we’re looking forward to the next game and trying to improve the scoreline.”

Discussing the test that Breiðablik put up, the youngster was pleased to start the match and get an hour of game time in what was a physically demanding encounter for Neil MacFarlane’s team.

He continued: “They (Breiðablik) were a good opposition and at the top level you might only get two a game so any chance you get you have to put it in the back of the net. I thought they pressed very well, they were organised and kept the ball well. I felt we matched them physically; we ran just as much as them.

“I thought I did well. Obviously, there are things which everyone can work on but I think throughout the game I grafted and did well when I got on the ball. We have a group of really talented players so once you get your place you have to try and keep it.”
