Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane was left proud after his side lifted the 2022/23 Premier League Cup trophy at the Gtech Community Stadium on Tuesday night after a 2-1 win over Blackburn Rovers Under-21s.

Two first half goals from Ryan Trevitt and Nathan Young-Coombes earned the side the victory to lift the trophy in their debut season in the competition.

Reacting to the win, MacFarlane said: “I am absolutely thrilled for all the players in that dressing room, the staff and everyone who has contributed to what is a long season. A night like tonight is a fitting end to what has been a breath-taking season for the players.

“I am so thrilled that they delivered on the night. This was a big night for them, a great crowd here at the Gtech and I thought first half we were absolutely outstanding. Some of our football was breath-taking, we were on the front foot and the pleasing thing is you have to do that when the game is 0-0. In the second half we got pegged back by a good Blackburn side when we were leading 2-0 at half-time but we showed good mentality towards the end of the game and thoroughly deserved the win tonight. It’s been a brilliant tournament for us.”

MacFarlane was keen to praise the team effort from his squad throughout the campaign with every player playing their part over the course of the season. He continued: “Everybody contributes. It’s 10 games, and hard work through the course of the season to get a night like tonight.

"You can only pick 11 and the five subs but everyone has contributed over the course of the games and played their part in what has been an outstanding season for us. It’s important to realise how far this group have come. They are a terrific bunch, they give us the lot every day at the training ground and take it into the games and we have a brilliant staff as well, they’re magnificent.

“It’s huge for them- the experience. I was satisfied that they turned up in the first half. When there is a lot of nervous energy kicking about the dressing room. To go out on the pitch and deliver such a scintillating performance, I couldn’t be happier with them.”
