Brentford Football Club can confirm that six B team players will depart the club at the end of their contracts following the conclusion of the 2022/23 season.

Nico Jones, Roy Syla, Lucias Vine, Lachlan Brook, Roco Rees and J’Neil Bennett will all be leaving the club upon the expiry of their contracts.

The club have also handed one-year contract extensions to Max Dickov, Max Wilcox, Angel Waruih, Kyreece Lisbie and Charlie Farr. All five of these players have club options of one additional year attached to their new contracts.

The club can also confirm that one-year options have been taken up on the contracts of goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom, forward player Aaron Pressley, as well as Chanse Headman and Reggie Rose.

All other members of the squad are already under contract with negotiations continuing with B team captain Alex Gilbert.

Nico departs the club after two seasons in red and white where he made 61 appearances in total, 31 of which came this season. Roy has also been with the Bees for two campaigns and featured 18 times for Neil MacFarlane’s side this season, starting the Premier League Cup final as the Bees beat Blackburn Rovers Under-21s 2-1 at the Gtech Community Stadium.

Lucias departs having played 15 times for the B team in his one season in West London whilst Roco leaves after spending two seasons with the side. Lachlan leaves the club having made 35 appearances for the B team in total, which followed a loan spell with Crewe Alexandra in Sky Bet League Two during the 2022/23 campaign. J’Neil departs having scored three times in 18 appearances for Neil MacFarlane’s team this season.

Discussing those players who will be departing, Brentford B head coach Neil MacFarlane said: “Nico has been a really good B team player for us and we’ve seen him develop so much since he first came into the building. He leaves us in a good place in terms of his performances and we feel he’s at a good age now to go and find the next step in his career at senior level.”

On Roy, who featured regularly for the side since February 2023 after recovering from injury, MacFarlane said: “Roy has been with us for a couple of years in different periods. We’ve seen how far he’s come as an individual. He will leave us in a good place, and I think he will be a really good addition to any team.

“Roco has been a big part of our group over the past two years, and we feel now the next stage of his development is trying to break into first team football away from Brentford. He has had some good experiences with us, and we’ve been pleased to play a role in his development.

“Lachlan has been able to gain some good experience out on loan with Crewe this season,” added MacFarlane. “He is a talented, technical, player who we feel has the ability to forge himself a career away from Brentford and build on his experience of playing men’s football over the past year.

“Lucias had a bit of a stop-start season where he came in on trial with us and did particularly well and he got off to a good start,” said MacFarlane. “It hasn’t quite worked out for him and he picked up a long-term injury earlier in the season. Now he is back fit we feel he now needs to find the next step.”

On J’Neil, who joined the Bees officially in November 2022 following a trial period earlier in the season, MacFarlane said: “J’Neil came to us for a trial at the start of the season and made a real impression. He picked up an injury and he then joined us later in the season following his recovery. He has performed really well for us, particularly during the Atlantic Cup in Portugal. He’s played in the league before, and I am sure he will be aiming to get back to that level and we feel it’s the right time for him to do that.”
