Brentford B exited the Middlesex Senior Cup at the semi-final stage following a 1-0 defeat to Hayes & Yeading United.

It was former Bee Reece Cole who got the only goal of the game in the second half in a match where neither side really dominated for large spells.

The young Bees lined up in a 3-4-3 formation with Kyreece Lisbie and Val Adedokun deployed as wing backs whilst Nathan Young-Coombes led the line with support on either side from Romeo Beckham and Tony Yogane.

A familiar face was also in the Hayes & Yeading line-up as former B team midfielder Reece Cole lined up in midfield for the opposition.

There were a couple of early openings for the young Bees when Young-Coombes flicked the ball round the corner for Yogane to run on to, but his cross from the left-hand side was just over the head of Lisbie.

On 11 minutes Beckham went close from a free-kick but his dipping effort from the right landed on top of the net. On 25 minutes Hayes & Yeading had their first real effort on goal and it came through Cole as he shot from the edge of the area but the attempt was straight at Ben Winterbottom.

Roger James was next to try his luck for the home side when he picked up the ball centrally. The Hayes & Yeading man managed to ride the challenge of Max Wilcox before shooting low past Winterbottom’s right-hand post.

Four minutes before the break the Bees then created perhaps their best chance of the game when a good pass from Wilcox was weighted perfectly into the path of Beckham who had cut inside from the right. The winger then looked to slot the ball into the bottom left-hand corner but credit to Simon Grant who was out quickly to save well. Adedokun then saw his header go over from the resultant corner.

Cole then began to make his mark on the game in the early stages of the second half as he saw one effort go well over from distance before he hit a sweet half volley straight at Winterbottom. A moment later the home side had their goal when the former Brentford man received the ball on the edge of the area before he drove inside the box, and despite being pushed wide, the midfielder finished well low across Winterbottom to make it 1-0.

Winterbottom was then called into action a couple more times in quick succession as he made two smart stops from a couple of Moses Emmanuel strikes. The Bees looked for a way back, though, and it almost came when Beckham crossed low towards substitute Lucias Vine but he was unable to connect with the ball as it flashed across goal whilst Yogane crossed to the far post from the left but another substitute in Max Dickov was unable to put his stooped header past Grant as he clawed the ball away. The Brentford man had one last attempt in stoppage time but he dragged his effort wide as the Bees exited the competition.
