Brentford Under-21s secured a 3–2 victory over Bournemouth Under-21s in the Professional Development League on Monday afternoon, as goals from Luca Picotto, Ethan Laidlaw, and a last-gasp winner from Beau Redknapp sealed all three points for the young Bees.

Picotto cancelled out Enes Ünal’s opener to bring Brentford level before Ünal struck again to restore Bournemouth’s lead. Laidlaw equalised with a powerful free-kick, and then second-half substitute Redknapp stepped up to grab the winner.

It was not the best of starts from the away side, and an attempted clearance from Reggie Rose struck the back of Ünal before hitting the back of the net.

The response was excellent from the Bees though, and a fast attack quite quickly after the restart saw Wheeler-Henry lift a perfect cross to Picotto, who volleyed past Kai Crampton.

The lead should have been doubled as Picotto delivered a cross which found Ethan Laidlaw, who had a free header on goal, but the attacker only just missed the target.

Following the goal, the young Cherries took charge of the game and Finn Tonks drilled a shot just wide of the goal.

On 31 minutes, Ünal took a free-kick from the edge of the box, which looked destined for the top corner, but Rose made a great save to deny the striker.

Ünal was not to be denied two minutes later, as his header found the back of the net from close range.

Before the half-time whistle, Theo Mawene went close to levelling the scores as he was found by Laidlaw, but Crampton got down low to deny the winger.

The tempo set by the Bees in the second period was much better, and there were a number of shots on the Bournemouth goal, albeit without troubling the goalkeeper.

On 60 minutes, the goal the west Londoners deserved arrived and it came through Laidlaw, who smashed it in from a free-kick on the edge of the box.

The away side were completely dominant as they searched for a winner.

Conor McManus went close to scoring the team's third but his shot in the box took a deflection which diverted the attempt away from the goal.

The winner arrived with the last kick of the game and it was Redknapp who latched onto a Picotto pass, rifling a shot into the top corner of the net. His first goal for Saunders' side.

Brentford are next in action on Tuesday 17 March as they welcome Coventry City to Gtech Community Stadium.
