Brentford B were defeated 2-1 following a late goal from Luton Town Under-21s at the Robert Rowan Performance Centre on Tuesday afternoon.

After falling a goal behind early on in the second half, the B team managed to find an equaliser through a trialist but a Luton strike on 90 minutes secured the win for the visiting team.

Brentford’s EFL Cup Second Round fixture against Newport County on Tuesday evening saw five B-team players called up to the first-team squad, with Neil MacFarlane forced to make a number of changes to the side that previously lined-up against Real Betis B.

The young Bees played a back three which consisted of Erion Zabeli, Chanse Headman and Conor McManus with Charlie Farr and Max Dickov utilised as wing-backs. Riley Owen partnered Angel Waruih in the central midfield positions whilst Isaac Holland, Tony Yogane and a trialist formed a front three.

Goalkeeper, Marley Tavaziva, was making his first start for the B team and was forced into action early on when Millar Matthews-Lewis broke with the ball from a Brentford corner.

Dickov chased back well to push the Luton forward out wide as his shot was gathered easily by Tavaziva.

The opening half saw Brentford enjoy the majority of possession but the side were unable to unlock the Luton backline.

Farr came closest for the young Bees when the wing-back cut inside from the right flank and unleashed a powerful strike with his left foot, but his effort was saved well by Jameson Horuck.

The young Bees made a good start to the second half with Owen dictating play for MacFarlane’s side.

The youngster came inches away from putting Brentford ahead but his curled effort from outside the box whistled past the post.

Luton opened the scoring just after the hour mark when Archie Heron latched on to a Brentford mistake and slotted the ball into the bottom corner from close range.

Romeo Beckham came close to making an impact from the bench after Owen threaded a great pass through to the 20-year-old.

Beckham did well to get a shot off, but his effort lacked power allowing Horuck to make a simple save.

Tavaziva denied Luton of a second goal on 77 minutes when the Brentford shot-stopper made a great save to keep out Matthews-Lewis’ close-range shot.

The Bees pulled one back five minutes from time after Beckham’s shot deflected into the path of a trialist who smashed the ball into the roof of the net, but the side weren’t level for long.

The visitors snatched a late winner following a Jayden Luker strike which took a wicked deflection before flying into the back of the net, which saw Luton leave with the win.
