Brentford B were defeated 2-0 in the Middlesex Senior Cup second round against Hayes & Yeading United at the SkyEx Community Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Brentford went into the break a goal down following a long-range effort from Ronan Silva despite a positive opening half from the visitors who had some good chances. Hayes & Yeading extended their lead early on in the second half with a goal from Michael Fernandes confirming their place in the quarters finals of the competition.

Neil MacFarlane fielded a fresh looking Brentford B side with a number of players unavailable after making the trip to the south coast earlier today to compete in a behind-closed-doors fixture for a Brentford XI team against Bournemouth.

The young Bees played a back three which consisted of Erion Zabeli, Benjamin Fredrick and Conor McManus with Under-18 player Ollie Shield and Max Dickov utilised as wing-backs. Charlie Farr partnered Angel Waruih in the central midfield positions whilst Isaac Holland, Ashley Hay and Iwan Morgan formed a front three.

The opening 20 minutes was a period where both sides attempted to get a foothold on the game but chances proved hard to come by.

Hay had the earliest opportunity to open the scoring when the forward got on the end of a well-placed cross from Shield, but the forward saw his attempt from six yards blocked by Jerry Wiltshire.

From the half-hour mark, the visitors began building up well from defence, a firm pass into midfield by McManus was flicked on well by Hay finding Dickov who ran down the left flank before cutting back his cross to Holland, who forced a good save out of Jacob Adams.

Just a couple minutes later on 36 minutes, the young Bees pushed forward again on the left side of the pitch. Hay played through Morgan who did well to take the ball around the Hayes & Yeading keeper but could only find the side netting with his shot from a tight angle.

The home side enjoyed good spells of possession inside the Brentford half but lacked any conviction in the final third as Vincent Angelini’s net wasn’t troubled for the first 44 minutes of the game.

Just before the half-time whistle was due to be blown Silva struck for the hosts with an incredible long-range strike that flew into the top left corner from 25 yards out.

The home side made a quick start following the break and doubled their lead seven minutes into the second half.

Substitute Fernandes pounced on a Brentford mistake before making his way into the box and crossing to Omar Rowe at the far post who smashed the ball past Angelini.

Beaux Booth, who was introduced to the game at half-time, had a positive impact for the Bees, the midfielder came close to pulling a goal back for his side, but his curled attempt went wide of the far-right post.

Brentford began to see a lot of the ball as the home team dropped deep in attempts to see out their lead, Hay had a late chance for the visitors but his header from close range was comfortably saved by Adams.
