FC Midtjylland’s Danish youth international midfield player Nikolaj Kirk will spend the 2017/18 season on loan with Brentford B. The 19-year-old, who is in the Under-19 squad at FCM, as they are known, will head to West London ahead of pre-season training, which starts tomorrow, Friday 23 June. The attacking midfield player will be with The Bees for the season – subject to international clearance – as part of the continued collaboration between Brentford and the Danish side, where Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham has the majority shareholding.Nikolaj has been part of the FCM family since he was six-years-old as he was on the books of Grønbjerg, one of their partner clubs. He came through the youth ranks and has been a regular in the Danish international youth teams. Nikolaj has represented his country at every level from Under-15 to Under-19 level, playing 18 officially recognised international matches.Robert Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: “We are excited to welcome Nikolaj to Brentford Football Club. He’s someone whom we’ve known about for a while due to our good relationship with the staff at FCM. I’m confident he can improve our squad and we can improve him as a footballer. We’ve made it clear internally that whoever we add to our group of young players must match or better the standard currently within our group of player. Therefore, the opportunity to bring in Nikolaj who is highly regarded by FC Midtjylland and the Danish FA was one we quickly acted upon.“Nikolaj’s first target will be to become a regular starter for Brentford B as we have some exciting attacking talent whom he will need to compete against and with. From there, depending on how hard he works and applies himself to this new environment anything is possible. We’ve shown last year that the opportunities are there for players at our club, our players trained with the first team on 409 occasions last year but it’s up to them to make the most of it.“I hope Nikolaj makes the most of this opportunity to learn and to experience a different environment and culture, I think this is a great opportunity for any young player and it’s one we will look to replicate for Brentford B players in the future if it’s right for them.”
