Frank McParland said he was delighted to be offered the chance to take up the role as Brentford Football Club Sporting Director.

Frank, 54, joined The Bees yesterday until at least the end of the 2013/14 season and steps in to the role vacated by Mark Warburton.

Mark was named as Brentford Manager yesterday, replacing Uwe Rösler, who left the Club on Saturday to take up the managerial position at Wigan Athletic.

Frank had been Director of Academy and Head of Player Development at Liverpool until last month.

He said he was given other opportunities but spoke to Brentford FC Owner Matthew Benham and decided to come to Griffin Park.

“I left Liverpool just over two weeks ago,” said Frank, speaking to Bees Player yesterday.

“I had a number of decent offers I was considering and out of the blue Matthew Benham rang me.

“I have known him for a number of years; I respect him and like what he is doing.

“We spoke about a number of things, also with Mark Warburton.

“I was delighted to get involved.

“Liverpool had a good relationship with Brentford when I was there, we had teams up.

“It is a good fit.”

Frank started at Liverpool around 20 years ago as Under-14 Assistant Coach and worked his way up to Head of Recruitment at Premier League club’s Academy.

He worked with the Liverpool First Team and was made Chief Scout by Rafael Benítez.

He left to join Bolton Wanderers as General Manager and then moved to Watford as Chief Scout before he was asked back to Liverpool to take charge of the Academy.

Frank told Bees Player he has known Mark Warburton since he was at Watford and worked with him on the NextGen Series.

Liverpool were in the tournament for the Academy teams at some of Europe’s top clubs, which was driven by Cycad Sports Management, founded by Mark Warburton and TV producer Justin Andrews.

He said his job was to help Mark but as the Club was currently being run well he didn’t envisage lots of changes.

“I have known Mark since I was at Watford,” said Frank.

“I was involved with him and the NextGen Series.

“I enjoyed that time as well.

“I have a lot of experience and am there to help the manager.

“My background is scouting and recruitment, I will take a massive part in that side.

“I have already had a meeting with all the scouts, which was good.

“The Club is well set up to have a Sporting Director.

“Mark Warburton has set the place up well.

“I don’t see many real changes; I will be working with what Mark set up and trying to improve a little bit.

“There are certain clubs where the manager does everything, that must be tough.

“I will be there to help the manager and the board, look at contracts, meet agents and Mark can work on the pitch.”

Frank said he knew Brentford Academy Director Ose Aibangee and was keen to see players come through from the youth ranks to the First Team.

He admitted he had not seen a lot of Brentford but knew the strength of the squad.

The Bees are currently fourth in Sky Bet League One, behind third-placed Preston North End on goal difference and six points off the top.

“I have been involved in the Premier League and Academy structure for past few years so I don’t know lots of facts about the Club,” said Frank.

“But I know there is a good squad, a good mix of young players and those with experience.

“The Club is in a good position to kick on.

“The most satisfying thing in football is to bring a player through from five or six to the First Team.

“It is unbelievable to do that.

“There is no point having an Academy if you don’t work hard at it.

“We will work very hard coaching players and in selecting players for the future.

“I have a good relationship with Ose and have done for five or six years.

“Teams came up to Liverpool regularly.”

Frank was at Brentford’s Training Ground last week, before the managerial changes and met most of the staff he will now work with.

“I was down here last week on a visit,” he said.

“Mark asked me to have a look around.

“I did a small presentation to the staff on what I had done.

”I have spoken to nearly all of them.

“I will look at each department in depth.

“I don’t think I will make many changes, it seems to be running well but maybe I can tweak a few things.”

Frank said he will be moving to London from his base in the North West and wanted to be part of the Brentford family.

“I am keen to be part of the family here, I want to be here as much as possible,” he said.

“I am really looking forward to watching games and seeing how we progress.

“It’s great for the fans, players and staff.

“The fans are the lifeblood of the Club.

“I am keen on it being a family club and I want to be involved.”
