Brentford FC has teamed up with Hounslow Council and backed the White Ribbon Campaign in a bid to prevent violence against women.

The White Ribbon Campaign is the largest effort in the world of men working to end men's violence against women.

Councillor Steve Curran, leader of Hounslow Council, and Councillor Sue Sampson signed up to the white ribbon campaign last month as part of UN International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women.

Mark Devlin, Brentford FC Chief Executive, said: “Brentford FC is proud to support the White Ribbon Campaign.

"We consider ourselves a part of the community in Hounslow and will always do what we can to support the people of the borough.

"Any work being done to eradicate violence will get our backing and it would be great if our supporters would make the white ribbon pledge as well.”

Cllr Sampson, cabinet member for communities, economic development, and domestic violence, and whose sister was murdered by her estranged husband, said: “The Bees have once again shown they are on the ball about important issues such as the white ribbon campaign.

“They are not only riding high in the Championship, they are top of the league when it comes to being a progressive community based club.”

The campaign reports 35 per cent of women and girls globally experience some form of physical and or sexual violence in their lifetime with up to seven in ten women facing this abuse in some countries.
