Brentford's Development Squad were beaten by Banbury United in a match that finished early due to floodlight failure.

The only goal of the game was scored on the half hour by Adam Confue and the Evo-Stick Southern League Premier Division side were worthy winners.

The key moment came when Brentford appeared to have cleared their lines as Confue tried to break from midfield.

However, the ball was returned with interest and Confue, who had beaten the offside trap despite it initially appearing otherwise, lashed in from 18 yards.

That was one of few efforts on target during the 78 minute match.

The evening was brought to an early close when the floodlights failed at Banbury's Spencer Stadium and the match officials, who were in luminous green bibs due to a clash with Brentford's all-black kit, decided they could not continue.

An extra 12 minutes would not have changed the outcome as Banbury were a bit too experienced and strong for a young Brentford team.

The hosts almost scored inside the first minute but there was little goalmouth action until Confue's goal.

After it, however, Brentford were at full stretch to ensure they stayed in the game.

Confue missed the best chance for a second when he headed over from close range and Brentford stopper Matt Gledhill denied Ryan Howell.

Howell shot over, Ricky Johnson shot wide and Gledhill saved from Liam Dolman as Brentford were rocked before the break.

The Bees improved after half time without really looking like scoring and Banbury had the better chances again.

Confue forced a save from replacement goalkeeper David Wootton and Stefan Tomasevic made a fine block to stop Neil Stacey scoring.

Myles Hippolyte had a low shot saved for The Bees but Matt Finlay was not overly busy in the Banbury goal.

A raft of substitutions stopped the flow of the game and when the floodlights failed on 75 minutes, the referee stopped it completely moments later.
