Brentford B will be heading off on their latest foreign trip next week and will be taking on some of the biggest names in Europe. The young squad will be travelling for Italy for three games in a week against three of the biggest teams in Serie A. Kevin O’Connor’s squad will be taking on a team from Atalanta Bergamasco Calcio to open the trip before taking on an Internazionale Milano side and one from Associazone Calcio Milan to end the week away.
The Bees will fly out to Northern Italy next Tuesday, 17 October, and will then face a team from Atalanta the following day. They will then head East to base themselves in Milan for the second half of the trip. On Saturday 21 October, they will face Inter before a clash with A.C. Milan on Wednesday 25 October. The squad will fly home after that match.
This will be Brentford B’s fourth trip of the season. A pre-season visit to Eastern Europe saw them win two games against ETO Gyor and MSK Zilina. They then beat Benfica B 6-0 away from home and last month there were games in Berlin. It will be the first time the B Team have visited Italy having previously played games in Spain, Portugal, Hungary, Germany and Denmark over the past 16 months.
Rob Rowan, Brentford FC Head of Football Operations, said: “Everyone is excited for this trip. To test ourselves against two of the biggest names in Europe - AC Milan and Inter Milan - and against one of the best academies in Europe – Atalanta - will be great experience for our players and staff.
“You only need to look at the quality of players that have come through these clubs to see the value in this trip. The likes of Paolo Maldini, Gianluigi Donnarumma, Walter Zenga, Leonardo Bonucci, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Roberto Donadoni have all came through these clubs so there is no doubt that we will be up against some potential world class players. It’s important our players and staff make the most of this experience and use it as an opportunity to learn and develop."
