Steve Madeley, Wolves reporter for The Athletic, has highlighted Pedro Neto as a “potent threat on the break” ahead of Brentford’s visit to Molineux on Saturday.

Neto has 10 Premier League goal involvements this season (2G, 8A), combining to devastating effect with fellow forward Matheus Cunha, who scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 victory at Chelsea last time out.

This is the fourth meeting between Brentford and Wolves in just over a month! What did you make of the last three?

Wolves were really good in the league game, albeit that they got a big helping hand from Brentford with some of the goals. Though the scoreline probably flattered them a bit, they did play well in that game.

The first FA Cup game was shaped by the red card for João Gomes and that ended up being a bit of a battling performance, rather than a slick one like in the first game, and the replay was a bit of a 50/50 game where both teams had good periods and less good periods.

Over the whole 210 minutes, I think Wolves deserved to come out on top and progress. They have done well against Brentford this season, all told.

After they beat West Brom in the fourth round of the FA Cup and given Wolves are 10th in the Premier League table, do you think that competition has moved up the list of priorities?

Gary O’Neil was always quite intent on taking the cups seriously, so I would not say it has moved up the list, particularly, but it was probably only so high on his list to begin with as they had been just outside the top half for a little while and have looked fairly comfortable.

Certainly from the fans’ point of view, given Wolves are likely not going to challenge for Europe – even though they are dreaming of that – an FA Cup run would be something tangible to take from what has already been a pretty impressive season.

What did you make of Wolves’ dealings in the January transfer window?

There are two strands to my answer. There is no escaping the fact Wolves have ended the window with a weaker squad than they started it with as they have let two strikers [Fábio Silva and Sasa Kalajdzic] go out on loan, albeit that neither were the kind of striker O’Neil wanted. But they were slightly higher calibre options than the U21s player he is now relying on, so that is not ideal.

At the same time, because of the pretty impressive season they have had so far, it probably should not matter a great deal. They should still be okay in terms of avoiding relegation, which was the aim of the season after a difficult summer.

The way the first half of the season has gone has almost bought them the chance to be more selective in the transfer market because, had they been hovering two or three points above the relegation zone now, they likely would have been forced to just go out and sign a striker in the hope that it came off.

Which player should Brentford fans keep an eye on?

Pedro Neto. There are a lot of really strong players for Wolves this season and the other two would be Mario Lemina in midfield and Matheus Cunha up front. If you look at the numbers, Neto has three goals and 12 assists in all competitions. He is an exciting player to watch, he gives Wolves a potent threat on the break and has the end product to show for it.

How is O’Neil likely to set up at Molineux?

Generally, they do not change too much. He plays kind of a hybrid system that switches between a 5-2-3 and more of a 4-4-2, so they tend to defend with a back four and then, when they have the ball, Nélson Semedo on the right pushes on to become a wing-back and they have three at the back.

Regardless of personnel, that does not particularly change. The front three are also quite fluid and it often becomes more like a front two with Neto as a right winger. It is a system they have been using in every game since they beat Manchester City at home.

What’s your score prediction for this one?

Wolves have been really strong at home this season – in fact their defeat to Manchester United last week was only their second at Molineux since the second home game of the season in September.

I have no reason to think that is going to change, so I will go for 2-1 to Wolves.
