Jack Kelly of the Fulhamish podcast has highlighted Fulham forward Kevin as the player to watch ahead of Brentford’s visit to Craven Cottage this weekend.
A Deadline Day signing from Shakhtar Donetsk, Kevin impressed during a 20-minute cameo against Leeds United last time out and could play a more prominent role in Saturday’s west London derby.
What have you made of Fulham's start to the Premier League season?
It has been fairly positive, if you think about the type of performance Fulham have put in and the points they have got from those games.
Getting two points from losing positions in the first two games was positive, then the game against Chelsea was a bit of an anomaly. Fulham were the much better team in the first half and scored, in my eyes, a perfectly legitimate goal that was chalked off.
Then, because of the amount of stoppages that were accounted for, Chelsea scored from a corner that should not really have been a corner because the half-time whistle should have been blown and there was a penalty decision that took VAR far too long.
It was a bit of a messy game and one that was not really a very good advert for Premier League football, in my opinion.
There were some positives to that performance, the first half especially, but all the energy was taken out of them because of what had happened on the pitch and all the decision-making.
Last Saturday, it was good they won the game against Leeds, but the performance was below-par.
Once Kevin came on, though, things seemed to change. It was tough to break down a low block yet again, but, ultimately, they managed to do so in quite bizarre circumstances.
Sometimes the footballing gods have to shine down on you, and I think they deserved that.
Overall, it has been really good, and they have not conceded from open play yet, so they have been solid and there is another level to get to.
It was a pretty quiet summer on the transfer front up until Deadline Day, when Fulham secured three new signings. What did you make of the club’s dealings?
There are two sides to it. The business they did was good business, but it should have happened earlier to give players more time to bed in.
Samuel Chukwueze and Jonah Kusi-Asare were not involved against Leeds, and they have barely met their team-mates and we are into mid-September.
Kevin was ready to go because he had already played for Shakhtar Donetsk and did not go on international duty, so he had 10 days with the squad.
But the first time the whole squad was together was last Thursday. The business was really, really slow, but they signed the right players in the end.
That said, they still did not get a midfielder in after selling Andreas Pereira, which is something Marco Silva is not happy about at all.
It feels as if the Kevin signing is a bit of a needle mover and, from what we saw of him last Saturday, he looks like one of the most exciting signings the club has made in recent history and that is really, really encouraging.
We have not seen anything from Chukwueze yet, but he sounds promising and exciting on the right-hand side.
Kusi-Asare is a player I do not know much about, other than he was an understudy to Harry Kane at Bayern Munich and has not played many minutes in his young career as he is only 18-years-old.
Kusi-Asare is not the profile of striker that Silva wanted to sign, so I do not necessarily think this is a Silva signing, which again points to the late business and has a sort of panic nature to it.
Benjamin Lecomte is a nice safe pair of hands, quite literally, for backing up Bernd Leno.
I think more should have been done and another midfielder should have come in. I can appreciate the deal they did for Kevin was very good business, in terms of all the logistics of it, but it is a signing they could have, and maybe should have, made two weeks prior. It would have been better for getting good performances and results early on in the season.
Fulham have still had a good start to the season, but it could have helped. Hopefully now the dust has settled, they can kick on from here and the new signings can make a difference.
Marco Silva's side achieved a new record points total last season with 54 and were only two points off finishing in the top 10 for the second time in three seasons. What's more of a priority - finishing in the top half or pushing for a return to Europe?
Silva came out after the final game of last season against Manchester City and said he had already spoken to the players and they had already made the target for this season, which is to do better than last season.
There is a window of opportunity to qualify for Europe and Fulham very much can be in that conversation.
Hopefully they improve on what was their Achilles heel last season, which was conceding and dropping points from winning positions.
They have not dropped any points from winning positions so far this season, at the time of speaking, which is obviously a good start.
If they keep that going, that will mean they will get more points on the table.
Which player should Brentford be keeping an eye out for on Saturday?
It has to be Kevin. I have never seen a reaction to a debut like that in all my time following Fulham.
Honestly, he was incredible. There are even compilations going around on social media of his performance.
He had the shot that led to the corner they scored from, he linked up play very, very well across the board and there were lots of flicks and tricks.
If he starts, I think Kevin could be insanely dangerous.
What should Keith Andrews’ men expect in terms of shape and style?
It will be a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. There is a chance Fulham go to a back five, but I do not think that will happen.
That was more of an approach we took based on Manchester United’s system and Chelsea away, which is a tough fixture and one where it is good to have an extra body in defence.
So, I think it will be the same sort of formation, with players who hurt Brentford last season potentially involved again, like Harry Wilson, but also Kevin and maybe Chukwueze.
What’s your score prediction?
I have gone really bold on my score prediction, based off Kevin, the impact he made, and him linking up with Emile Smith Rowe, who might come back into the team from the start.
I am going with Fulham to win 3-0; I have real confidence in them at the moment.
