Brentford youngster Alfie Mawson, currently on loan at Wycombe Wanderers, has received special recognition from the Football League.

Alfie is with Sky Bet League Two Wycombe for the whole of the 2014/15 season.

He has played 41 games and scored five goals as the Buckinghamshire side have pushed for promotion.

The last of those five was the winning goal in Wycombe’s 2-1 win over Cheltenham Town on Saturday, April 11, which kept The Chairboys third in the table.

It also earned Alfie a place in the Football League Team of the Week.

The team, published on the Football League website, is drawn from the performances over the previous seven days in all three Sky Bet Football League divisions.

It is the second time Alfie has been selected.

He also earned a nomination in December after scoring his first professional goal in a win at Hartlepool United.

Brentford have been well represented in the Team of the Week this year with Alex Pritchard featuring twice, after helping The Bees to wins over Norwich City at the end of January and then AFC Bournemouth in February.

Jake Bidwell was picked after setting up two goals as The Bees beat Brighton and Hove Albion 3-2 in September and Jonathan Douglas was named after scoring twice in a week, against Watford and Reading, at the start of October.

After The Bees beat Nottingham Forest and Millwall away in the space of three days at the start of November Andre Gray, who scored three goals in the two wins was selected, and Brentford Manager Mark Warburton was named as best boss that week.

Jota has also been named once – after scoring a spectacular goal in Brentford’s win at Cardiff City just before Christmas – while Jon Toral was selected after hitting a hat-trick in Brentford’s win over Blackpool in February and David Button was picked after helping The Bees to a draw away to Ipswich and home win over Huddersfield Town.

Nico Yennaris was nominated after setting up the winner for Wycombe, where he is on loan, against Shrewsbury Town.

And Will Grigg’s four goals in three days over the Easter weekend earned him a spot.
