Brentford Women B continued their unbeaten start to the Greater London Division One North season with a brilliant 8-1 win over Actonians Thirds on Sunday.

Abigail Claringbold continued her stellar goal scoring form with four goals, Cheyenne Faulkner added two and Kasey Clifford and Shania Foley finished with one each to round out a complete performance from the Bees.

Brentford wasted little time putting their stamp on the game, Clifford putting a free kick from the edge of the box into the top left corner on six minutes to take a 1-0 lead.

A second goal wasn’t far away, Clifford taking a shot from outside the box which deflected off an Actonians’ defender to Claringbold, who crossed it in from the left side to an open Foley who found the back of the net for her first goal for the club to make it 2-0 on 15 minutes.

After two early goals the Bees were held up by Actonians’ defence across the next 20 minutes, unable to find the back of the net.

Claringbold put an end to that on 36 minutes, meeting the ball on the bounce from a short corner and flicking it into the back of the net across her body for her first goal of the game.

As the break approached Actonians managed to get a goal back to bring the deficit to two goals at half-time, finding the bottom right corner from a free kick on the edge of the box.

While enjoying a comfortable lead out of the break, the Bees were forced to wait 15 minutes to score their first goal of the second half. The chance came thanks to a brilliant through ball from Freya Morgan, finding Claringbold on the break who converted for her second goal.

The game opened up from there, Brentford able to find a fifth goal five minutes later thanks to a deep run and cross from K-Lah Briscoe into a cutting Claringbold, who completed her hat-trick with a nice finish.

The goals began to flow, the Bees converting their sixth goal on 70 minutes through Claringbold, who ran onto a loose ball after it rebounded off Briscoe in the defensive half and found its way to the forward half.

Claringbold found herself in the role of assisting soon after, her through ball finding Faulkner on the run, who fought past one defender and found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Faulkner made it two goals and eight for the team soon after, her header finding the bottom left corner from a brilliant cross from the right side by Clifford.

Reflecting on the win, Brentford coach Tommy Ryan-Maynard was pleased with his side’s opening 45 minutes.

“I was really happy with the way we played, I think we were kind of dominant from the start which is what we needed to do and we haven’t been doing that too often this season,” said Ryan-Maynard.

“K-Lah came on at half-time and done really well, she got a couple of assists, had a couple of chances to score herself and made a real impact on the game.

“Larique was solid at the back … she was great, winning lots of her one-vs-one battles, organising the backline, which was fantastic.”
