The young Brentford side drew 3-3 in an entertaining contest against Heidenheim U17s on Wednesday at the Sportanlagen DFB Stutzpunkt.
Lydia Bedford’s team began the first game of their pre-season tour in excellent fashion, strikes from Emeka Peters and Kaya Halil put the visitors two goals ahead going into the break. Despite a second half Josh Djoro goal, Heidenheim, who also prepare for the new season, fielded a new side in the second half with the German club going on to score three times to ensure a draw.
Brentford continued their pre-season work as they faced off against a Heidenheim U17s side who play their league football in the Bundesliga Group F, a league which contains many youth sides of German top division clubs.
The young Bees got off to a flying start with the side going a goal up inside the first five minutes.
It was Peters who found the net for Brentford after receiving the ball on the left side of the box before cutting inside and unleashing a powerful shot into the bottom corner.
Bedford’s side were playing with a real swagger as the visiting team pinned Heidenheim back in the opening minutes of the game.
Brentford made it two on 10 minutes with Halil doubling the sides lead with an excellent strike into the top right corner.
Peters was on fire for the young Bees and had the beating of the Heidenheim right-back every time he went one-on-one.
The forward thought he had grabbed his second of the game just after the half hour mark, but his strike from the left side of the box struck the bar.
Bedford, who looked to utilise her full squad, made five changes at half-time with the head coach maybe having one eye on Saturday’s test against Bayern Munich.
Heidenheim also looked to their bench just after the break in hopes of a reaction, the German club brought on a new 11 as Brentford’s fitness levels were tested.
One of the substitutes was striker Maximilian Kos who made an instant impact pulling one back for his side just after the hour mark.
Brentford continued to play their football and 30 seconds after Heidenheim’s opener the away side replied instantly.
A great run and cross from Naeem Giscombe down the right channel found Djoro at the far post who had a tap in.
Heidenheim scored from the resulting kick-off with Kos beating the Brentford keeper from the half-way line brining his side back in it for the second time of the match.
Late Heidenheim pressure prevailed for the hosts, and it was Kos again who found the net, this time levelling the scoring and earning his hat-trick.
