Brentford put on a magnificent display at Wheatsheaf Park on Saturday morning beating Gillingham 3-0 in the EFL Merit League 2.

A goal inside two minutes from Adam Poliakov got the young Bees off to a flying start. The hosts got their second right after the break, this time Peters finding the bottom corner with an excellent finish. The forward struck again late on to secure the three points for his side.

Lydia Bedford made six changes to the side who beat Exeter City last weekend with Marley Tavaziva, Andre Grey, Matas Klimas, Adam Poliakov, Emeka Peters and Brandon Annous all introduced to the starting line-up.

Brentford got off to the perfect start and got themselves ahead just two minutes in through Poliakov scoring his second goal in as many games.

Ollie Shield started the move playing a neat give and go with Peters before cutting the ball back to Poliakov who struck powerfully finding the bottom right corner.

The attacking midfielder was denied a second on Brentford’s next serious attack when the ball fell to him on the edge of the box, but his volley was blocked well by a Gillingham defender.

Brentford were often frustrating Gillingham as the hosts were enjoying some nice spells of possession inside the opening half hour of the match.

Marley Tavaziva was called into action for the Bees when a Gillingham counter-attack ended in Joseph Gbode finding space for a shot but the Brentford keeper made a smart save to keep his side ahead.

Gbode had another good chance just before the break when the forward found space inside the Brentford box, but his shot went just wide.

The Gills started the second half with the same intensity that they finished the first with, Gbode remained a threat and saw an early shot on goal blocked well by Klimas.

Brentford’s attacking threat didn’t show any sigh of easing off with the side coming close to making it 2-0 only for Peters shot to be saved well by Sullivan Carter.

The forward wasn’t to be denied on 53 minutes though when a cut back pass from Michael McSorley found Peters who opened up his right foot to slot the ball into the bottom right corner.

The visitors began to pile the pressure on as they looked for a route back into the game, full-back Josef Orpwood came close with his strike from distance going just wide of the top left corner.

Peters wrapped up the win for Brentford when the forward latched onto a long ball before beating his marker and finding the bottom left corner.
