The fixture list for our 2015/16 Sky Bet Championship campaign has been released, and on whole, it appears to be kind at key points in the campaign.
We start with a home fixture against Ipswich Town on 8 August before travelling to newly-promoted Bristol City a week later. Ashton Gate will be full to capacity for The Robins first Championship match after two seasons in League One.
The other game at Griffin Park early in the season to catch the eye is the resumption of the ‘237 derby’, against Queens Park Rangers on 31 October. It will be the first time in 11 years that the two sides have played each other competitively. Bees fans wanting to secure their seat for this game are reminded that the Early Bird Season Ticket discount ends at 4pm today. The match is scheduled on the same date as the 2015 Rugby World Cup Final at Twickenham, and fans with an interest in both codes will be waiting anxiously to see if the match date or kick-off time will be switched.
Christmas time has again given Brentford a home fixture on Boxing Day for the third successive season – this time against Brighton and Hove Albion. The two sides last played each other on this festive fixture back in 1995, when on a farcically icy Griffin Park pitch, The Seagulls grabbed a 1-0 win.
Away games at Reading (28 December) and Birmingham City (2 Jan) complete the festive schedule. There is no game on New Year’s Day, which will be good news to all revellers looking to celebrate in style.
For the first time since the Club joined the Football League in 1920, there will be no matches played over Easter due to the March international break. Similar breaks are scheduled for September, October and November.
Our final home league match of the season is against Fulham, which will evoke memories of that raining April day in 1992 when Phil Holder’s side destroyed The Cottagers 4-0 in front of a packed Griffin Park.
That result paved the way for us to clinch the Third Division Championship a week later at Peterborough United. We finish our campaign with an away trip to Huddersfield Town, and if it’s as exciting as the final day 4-4 draw between the two sides in May 2011 then both sets of fans will be in for a treat.
Remember, Sky TV broadcasts several Sky Bet Championship matches during the season so all dates are subject to change.
