Leeds United’s 2017/18 season

League Position: 13th

Average league attendance: 31,521

Top league goal-scorer: Kemar Roofe (11)

Getting set for a ninth straight year of Championship football, Leeds look far from stable as they go on the hunt for another new manager at the start of a campaign for the fifth year running.

Since getting promoted in second place from League One in 2010, Leeds have not been to the Play-Offs. Instead, despite a few near misses and seventh-place finishes, they have hovered in the bottom half of the table.

Next season they have options at the back and in midfield, if they improve the front line they could be contenders for the top six. Success will most likely depend on who takes the reins and whether that person can last until May.

How to get there

The Manager

United are currently without a Head Coach following the sacking of Paul Heckingbottom after just four months in charge. Having left Barnsley for Leeds in February, he was shown the exit after winning four of his 16 games in the top job.

Several managers are being touted for the position, most recently Marcelo Bielsa has been named as the most likely candidate to take charge.

The Key Man

A 27-year-old commanding centre-back, as well as a Swedish international on his way to the World Cup, Pontus Jansson is a big part of Leeds' future.

He started his career at Malmo FF and played almost 100 games for them before moving on to Torino in Italy. After a season in the shadow of The Alps, he moved on loan to Leeds and then signed permanently in February 2017.

Last term he played 42 times and scored three goals alongside a variety of defensive partners. A great option as the base of a spine in any strong team, Leeds have got the likes of middle man Pablo Hernandez just ahead of him. Getting him support in the back four is key for the next campaign.
