England’s Semi-Final date with Croatia pulled in a record television audience of 30.9m, while petrol stations from Durham to Dartmouth were stripped of every St George’s car flag. Beer was both consumed and thrown skyward in equal measure, and The Lightning Seeds could be heard on every frequency.

However, back in TW8, it wasn’t just The Three Lions who the locals had their eyes on. With hands shaken and kick-off complete at Mordovia Arena for Denmark’s opening game against Peru, Henrik Dalsgaard had made history by becoming the first contracted Brentford player to feature on the world stage.

The full-back would rack up more minutes than any other EFL player in Russia, completing every game en route to Denmark’s penalty shoot-out defeat to Croatia in the Round of 16.
